Week 4 Question 1

Ironically, both my worst and the best speakers were both my history teachers. The best one was my 7th and 8th grade history teacher. He knew exactly what needed to be said to get his point across but to make it understandable for anyone and everyone in the class. The flow of the class was wonderful because it was so easy to stay involved in the conversation in class, which in history classes is close to impossible for me. Not only was he able to get his message across in a clear sense but he threw in some humor, which makes for a fun learning environment. As far as my other teacher that I had, just last year for history, he was not a very good speaker. Yes, he knew what he was talking about, he was very credible, but he did not understand flow. He would start a sentence, and about five words in, he would jump back to something he covered earlier in the lecture. He was very unsteady which made it very hard to learn and stay focused in his discussions. He often made it hard for me to stay awake because he was boring and very unstable in his structure. Learning history that year was not an easy or fun task for me.

  1. I know exactly what you are referring to. I also wrote about my school teachers. However my most hate subject is science and the teacher made it even worse. She knew what she was talking about, however, she was extremely boring. Just like you, I had a very hard time staying awake in her class, when I even attended. She was that bad of a speaker. Most of her speeches were read directly from the text and she had no sense of humor. Science was so horrible that semester. Lets hope we get good speakers in the following semesters to come.

  2. Its great when a teacher can speak with pure interest. It's also great when these teachers show humor and enjoyment when teaching a class. I feel like if all my teachers had great sense of humor, that I would have a masters degree by now. On the other hand it's always a waste when a teacher doesn't enjoy what there doing, and making it noticeably like not flowing through what is being taught. History might not be the funnest or most interesting and enjoyable but it's a lot easier to learn when the person teaching or speaking enjoys what they do.
