Speaker

When I think of a speaker that I admire, the first person that comes to my mind is Martin Luther King Jr. As all successful speakers, he used ethos, logos and pathos to persuade his listeners into the belief that all people should be intertwined, despite the color of their skin. Through ethos, he was determined to never give up in his hopes and dreams of one day eliminating all segregation in the world. He also used logos to help persuade the people into accepting his notion that he had brought forth. Through pathos he was able to share why his experiences have brought him to this dream of equality amongst all. The way he went about his speeches is what brought him to be such a successful person in getting rid of segregation amongst the people before him. Through it all, he stuck to his word, even if it was the cost of his life.
I usually choose to appeal to emotion (Pathos), because that is how I am more easily persuaded. I try to bring forth information that the person or people I am trying to persuade want to hear. I believe it does work because I notice how easy it can be to persuade someone through using these tactics.

  1. I definitely agree that Martin Luther King Jr. is a very successful speaker. The speech he gave, "I Have a Dream," was certainly a great example of emotion due to his wording used to sway the audience. I have no doubt his words will forever be remembered, especially those who witnessed his speech. When using emotion, persuasion, and credibility, it is very evident that the individual gave much time, thought, and effort to chose the words they speak because most times there is only one shot to grab the audiences attention. I am also a person who uses emotion when speaking, because being genuine and passionate about something will show an audience or even just one person I am serious about something. I have always been really strong when it comes to being credible. I believe when telling the truth, whether good or bad, people will always remember that my words are believable when i speak once more. Using Logos, Ethos, and Pathos are very important, and need to be used more often.
