Week 6. Question #3

Listening doesn’t always work; very often we are too distracted to have the ability to listen to the full conversation.  Listening does not just involve hearing what is said to you, but actually digesting what is being said, you have to be attentive mentally in order to hear what is being said. Listening involves so much more than just opening your ears for someone. This effort to fully pay attention to someone was not something we are all born with. We have to teach our self and be taught how to fully listen to someone. Too many times we are distracted by the outside world so much that it makes it nearly impossible to hear what the person is saying to us. If you can paraphrase what has been said to you, then chances are you blocked out majority, if not all the distractions that surrounded you. This means your listening was successful, but it doesn’t always work that way.

  1. I agree, listening doesn’t always work. It’s like being in class and having to listen to the entire lecture…very unlikely even though it’d be better to actually pay attention. As human beings, we get distract by the smallest things. I also agree with listening not involving hearing but also take it all in and digesting it. It depends on what is being said. I know for me, if the topic isn’t something I’m not really interested in, I will distract myself with my surroundings. All in all, I enjoyed your post!
