Week 11 Question #3
"Cultural-level rules are general and apply to all of the members of a particular culture". These rules are ones that we would use when we are with people we don’t really know all that well. Such rules are being polite when we greet new people and we use "fairly formal forms" of address. Our nonverbal communications in this aspect are things like nodding, or shaking hands with the stranger we are meeting or approaching. We tend to limit our choice of topics, we might ask them questions that would allow us to get to know them or we might tell them things about ourselves, so they can get to know us. Some things we might ask are: What’s your name? How old are you? How was your day? Etc. A very typical topic that we resort to when we are talking to strangers is talking about the weather or current events that are taking place.
